The jury, Charles Droste (Theatre Amphion in Doetinchem), Anne van Rijn (cabaretduo Dames na Vieren) and singer-songwriter Marike Jager, said: “If a band in it’s early stages is this good, you have to give it a chance. If its about ‘strong silence’ or about an unsure love in a mocking walz, the band keeps it’s back straight”.

We are really happy with this and will use the money we won for new recordings. You can see pictures under Photo’s and you can watch the winning song via the following link:

Sofie wins Masterclass Esther Maas!

On the website ongekendtalent.nl there was a contest you could subscribe to. A contest where a masterclass given by Esther Maas was to be won. Esther herself picked a vocalist she would want to give a masterclass to. And she picked me! This is really great news because Esther Maas is a great vocal teacher (on of the best in Holland!). She is a classical vocalist herself, but supports many professional vocalists in many different styles. The masterclass will be filmed Hurray!

New Management!

After working closely with “Podiumstart” for the past year and a half it is time for a next step with manager Nick Steenge (nicksteenge.com). Podiumstart focusses on supporting and advising starting bands. They have given Le Titre the attention and care it needed to get started. We look back on a very productive and valuable collaboration. We are very thankful towards Anna and Malou (Podiumstart) for this.

And now the next step… Under the management of Nick Steenge we will continue what we started in 2008. And of course; play till we drop.

A Trumpet!

Le Titre shall be reinforced with trumpet player Cees Bruinsma on the 5th of May (Groningen, Local Heroes stage, 18:00). They will also be performing live on OOG radio at 19:30.

Le Titre wins finals Dicky Woodstock Contest

After winning the first round in Meppe, Le Titre won the Finals of the Dicky Woodstock Contest. This gives them the opportunity to play prime time on the Dicky Woodstock Festival 2010! The judges commented on the originality of the music, Sofie’s voice and a solid stage performance. The finals took place in De Karre in Tuk. What a great place to play!

Singer Sofie of the band Le Titre compares herself to Amanda Palmer. You can call the ex- Dresden Doll a good singer, but Sofie does herself short with this comparison. Both sing with persuading emotion but Sofie can perform small songs with a big voice in a more powerful way, without losing her calm voice.
Even in the up-tempo song ‘Resist’, she is able to keep control in her voice. Walz is a very considerate song which is moving because of the soft piano playing that makes a childish dance with Sofie’s dark and mature voice. The track ‘These ways of mine’ doesn’t fascinate as much, because of the unclear line in the composition and a plane vocal line. Overdone is more exciting. There is a distance created in that song between the band and the listener. The voice sometimes fades away and the high echoing tones of the guitar give a dreamlike effect. In the end, the five song- EP is very nice and surprising to listen to. And it sounds like more.

There already is quite of an audience in the gymhall Meulvliet in Tholen, when the show of Le Titre starts. Despite the fact that this is a calm opening compared to what the rest of the festival will bring, the performance is not dull at all. In contrary! The music is fine and there is not much to criticise on this area, but the voice of singer Sofie Letitre is something you can call outstanding.
She has the audiences full attention when she playes her songs in the style she calls pop-noir. I myself believe that I will call her the Dutch Fiona Apple from now on. The host could be right when he said that this band deserves a place on Pinkpop. Goosebumps…

Le Titre. Though the name may at first sound rather exotic, it does fascinate. One would assume that this name (The Title in French) was especially chosen, but such is not the case. It simply is the surname of singer/song writer and founder of the band, Sofie Letitre. This singer and pianist with her remarkable sound, gathered a group of broadminded musicians.

Thomas Zeevalking on drums, Ype Koopman bass and Ferdy van der Singel, guitar and background vocals. Together they form the band Le Titre, but they could just as well have been called Les Etrangers (The Strangers). The sleeve of “Sharp Silence” is, like the band’s sound, unusual. Sofie’s classical appearance radiates something mystical. A young, beautiful woman who looks powerful.
Listening to the first song, Stranger, one immediately notices the extraordinary ensemble between the talented musicians. Sofie’s voice sounds anything but sweet. A solid and robust sound indicates her empathic quality. She sings with emotion and conviction. The song sounds good, slightly mysterious and has a catchy tune. It would have sounded even better if the chorus would have had a second voice, like in the bluesy number “Waiting for Tonight”. Guitar player Ferdy van der Singel reinforces that song with his melodious backing vocal. One of my favorites is “Sharp Silence” (nr 6). Melody and lyrics are dramatic and convincing: “Because change is all we need. This heart’s too young to bleed. The lies will fade away. But sharp silence will stay.”
Le Titre’s music can be compared to Tori Amos, Lamb and Hooverphonics. Fans of these artists will certainly enjoy Le Titre. Their concerts too, like the cd, impress by the genuine emotions that can be heard in the songs. Le Titre may well become very big. Though they will probably not become top-40 material, as their music is not commercial. Never mind! Le Titre is for the connoisseur!
